A total of 12 billion Singapore dollars will be added to Amazon Web Services over the next five years. This money will be used to directly improve its cloud infrastructure and other Amazon services in Singapore.

Priscilla Chong, who is the country manager of AWS Singapore, said, “The investment will go toward building up and constructing the DC capabilities that are related to the Asia-Pacific Singapore region.”

More than ten years ago, Amazon opened its first store in Singapore, which was in the Asia-Pacific area. It was also its first store outside of the US and Europe.

“Since our investment in Singapore in 2010, AWS has continued to strengthen their commitment to the ASEAN region,” Chong said. “They share the improvement in digital skills across the nations and provide secure and resilient infrastructure consistently across the region.”

More than 400,000 people in Singapore work for the company in the cloud skills area, according to Chong. They will “continue investing in upskilling and improving productivity,” he said.

There is a big need for cloud computing services and data centers because of the rise of AI.

Tan Kiat How, who is the senior minister of state at Singapore’s Ministry of Communications and Information, said, “Cloud service providers like AWS are very important for making the digital economy run better.” Cloud service providers not only provide organizations with a basic digital framework, but they also make it easy for them to access digital resources like compute and storage, as well as more advanced features like AI and generative AI.

This is because experts say there aren’t enough tech workers in Singapore or the world as a whole, so many tech companies are moving their offices or spending in other places.
