Police in California are refusing to release any footage related to the arrest of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) on Thursday denied a public records request seeking the release of body and dashboard camera video documenting Paul’s arrest last month on suspicion of drunk driving.
The District Attorney’s Office also said that it has not decided yet what, if any, charges, will be filed against Nancy’s husband.
“This is standard protocol in any DUI case that is referred by a law enforcement agency in Napa County,” the agency said in a press release on Thursday. “No decision has been made at this time. Any speculation to the contrary is incorrect.”
According to TMZ, Paul was arrested in Napa County, California, at 11:44 p.m. last month and was charged with driving with a blood-alcohol level of .08 or higher as well as driving under the influence of alcohol.
Paul, who has been married to Nancy Pelosi since 1963, was attempting to cross State Route-29 when his Porsche was struck by a man driving a Jeep, police said.
He was charged with two misdemeanors and had his bail set at $5,000 but others have falsely claimed that all DUI charges against him were dropped.
A spokesperson for Speaker Pelosi said she would not be commenting on the “private” matter.
“The speaker will not be commenting on this private matter which occurred while she was on the East Coast,” the spokesperson said.
In related news, Nancy Pelosi is denying allegations made in a new book, according to which she insulted two high-profile Democrats.
“This Will Not Pass,” a shocking, definitive account of the 2020 election written by two New York Times reporters, alleges that the House Speaker pitted Representatives Pramila Jayapal and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez against each other.
The book also claims that Nancy told one senior lawmaker that Hispanic and Asian immigrants are not with Democrats after the loose talk of socialism by many lawmakers, as most immigrants religious and liberal Democrats apparently offended them with their abortion politics.
“In some of the same communities, the Italian Catholic speaker said, Democrats had not been careful enough about the way they spoke about abortion among new Americans who were devout people of faith,” according to an excerpt of the book.
