Omar was also known for the controversial statements that she made, ousting some of the Republican members off the panels when the majority of Democrats was controlling the House.

On Thursday, the House of Representatives voted to pass a resolution, removing Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

In an exclusive report published by CNN, the House of Representatives “have argued Omar should not serve on the committee in light of past statements she has made related to Israel that in some cases been criticized by members of both parties as antisemitic.”

“Democrats have criticized the push to oust Omar, arguing it amounts to an act of political revenge and that the Minnesota Democrat has been held accountable for her past remarks. The party-line vote was 218 to 211. GOP Rep. David Joyce of Ohio voted “present,” the report added.

Prior to the vote, Omar released a statement, sounding defiant in a floor speech, claiming that “My leadership and voice will not be diminished if I am not on this committee for one term. My voice will get louder and stronger.”

“So take your vote or not — I am here to stay, and I am here to be a voice against harms around the world and advocate for a better world,” the congresswoman added.

Following the decision, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries quickly blasted the GOP and accused the Republicans lawmakers of seeking “political revenge.”

“I will move immediately to seat Rep. Omar on the House Budget Committee where she will defend Democratic values against right-wing extremism,” Jeffries tweeted following the controversial House vote.

The decision to remove Omar was fueled by the controversial tweets and comments that she made in 2019 and 2021 when she reportedly invoked antisemitic tropes which included her criticism of pro-Israel politicians, alleging that they were being “all about the Benjamins.”

Omar also compared the United States and Israel to Hamas and the Taliban which sparked outrage and criticisms among her fellow Democrats as well as the Republicans.

“Representative Omar, by her own words, has disqualified herself from serving on the Committee on Foreign Affairs, a panel that is viewed by nations around the world as speaking for Congress on matters of international importance and national security,” the resolution said.

It also added that her comments “have brought dishonor to the House of Representatives.”
