Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson have agreed to call Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, to a meeting with Congress. When this news came out, it wasn’t long after Schumer called for new elections to get rid of him as Prime Minister.

A spokesman for Schumer said, “Sen. Schumer plans to accept the invitation; the exact date is still being worked out.” The only other person to join a meeting of Congress was British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Netanyahu has spoken to Congress many times.

Schumer said that calling for new polls when the war against Hamas “starts to wind down” was the only way to make sure that the Jewish State would have a future. In the same breath, Schumer had said that Netanyahu was the main “obstacle” to peace in the Middle East.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said, “Genocidal terrorists like Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, who kill innocent people, and corrupt leaders of the Palestinian Authority who have turned down peace deals from multiple Israeli governments are the main things that stand in the way of peace in Israel’s region.”

Michael Herzog, who is the ambassador of Jerusalem to the US, said, “Israel is a sovereign democracy.” It is not helpful to say anything about the politics of a democratic partner, especially since Israel is at war with the murderous terrorist group Hamas. Our shared goals will not be served by it.”

People asked Schumer about Johnson’s offer to include Netanyahu in the meeting. Schumer replied, “Israel has no stronger ally than the United States, and our relationship goes beyond any one president or Prime Minister.” If the Prime Minister of Israel ever gets the chance to talk to Congress, I will always be glad to do so.
