The EU is looking into whether Apple, Meta, and Google broke some of the new rules that the EU made to stop behavior that hurts competition.

If the three tech companies are found guilty, they could get hit with big fines. The act they are talking about is the Digital Markets Act, which gets rid of people who try to hurt competition. This law was just passed a few weeks ago.

For some companies, there were some problems that the European Union is looking into. Apple and Google are two examples of companies that try to get people to use their other app stores instead. It will also check Google to see if they were promoting their own services, like Google Shopping, in search results on their search engine, which would make people more likely to stick with their own brand and business.

According to the commission, “the commission suspects that the measures put in place by these gatekeepers fall short of effective compliance with their obligations under the DMA.”

The new law was made to give the company’s competitors a fair chance to compete. It requires all six technology giants to follow rules that will create more possibilities and fair competition.

“Gatekeepers and I have been talking about how to help them adapt for months, and we can already see changes in the market.” “But we are not sure that Alphabet, Apple, and Meta’s solutions live up to their promises of making the internet a fairer and more open place for Europeans and businesses,” said Thierry Breton, who is in charge of the internal market.

A lot of people agree with this and think that making the change as soon as possible will be good for everyone, including customers.
