After U.S. aid was approved, Ukraine had high hopes that it would not be left behind

The president of Ukraine spoke out about the recent help that the US sent, saying that even though it was long overdue, it shows that Ukraine will not be left behind. The leader of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, said that his country would not turn into a “second Afghanistan.” Because of the fall of the government in Afghanistan after the US left the war a few years ago, he compared Ukraine to that country.

He also said that they would be getting their forces ready because they thought Russia would attack harder before the aid got to their country. “We really need to get this to the endpoint,” Zelenskiy said. It needs to be passed by the Senate right away, not in six months, so that we can get real help for the soldiers on the front lines.

The Senate will decide for the first time this week on the aid package. Joe Biden has said that he will sign off on the aid as soon as it gets to his desk. People who agreed with Trump didn’t want to give aid to Ukraine, which was part of aid for Israel and Taiwan at the time. This caused a lot of back and forth.

Before this, Ukraine had used up all the aid that had been given to it, which is what led to the call for more aid. Without it, Ukraine’s front lines would have been weak and unprepared to fight Russia.

Officials from the United States have said that they are ready to send weapons to Ukraine as soon as Joe Biden decides what will be done with the help.
