Israel is trying to find a new time to meet at Rafah

Israel has asked the US to reschedule their meeting about their military operation in Rafah that was called off.

The meeting that was meant to happen in Washington, D.C., was called off by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. According to a spokeswoman for the White House, Karine Jean-Pierre, “We’re now working with them to find a date that works for both of us.”

Netanyahu was angry about what the US did about the UN Security Council resolution that called for a quick end to the fighting and the release of hostages. Because of this, he called off the meeting.

Officials from the United States said they were shocked by the cancellation and that it was a “overreaction” to the resolution since the policy hadn’t really changed. A date hasn’t been made official yet, but word on the street is that it will happen soon.

The trouble starts with Netanyahu’s plans to send troops to Rafah in Gaza, where more than a million Palestinians have sought refuge. Other leaders have spoken out against them because they are afraid that many people will die if they move into Rafah.

That “could lead to a slaughter in Gaza” was what the UN said. Israeli officials have said, though, that they will move forward with or without US help.

Some people spoke out against the cancelation, saying that his response was just a power surge over the United States. But Netanyahu said that the delay was meant to show Hamas that they would not give up the war, even though other countries were putting pressure on them to do so.
