Southeast Asia is getting Amazon Cloud Regions?!

Amazon says it will open cloud areas in Southeast Asia to meet the needs of people who want to safely store their data there.

Werner Vogels, Amazon’s CTO, said, “This is because many of our customers have been asking for it.” It was important to them to have something local so that they could meet local data store needs or protect personally identifiable information.

When it comes to cloud services, Amazon Web Services, which is Amazon’s own service, is the biggest in the world. Amazon has been responsible for more than 30% of all cloud spending in the world.

An Amazon Web Services area is a place in the real world where several data centers are grouped together.

Vogels talked about how broad the need is, saying, “It’s not just startups that want that.” There are also government bodies and big businesses. It’s likely that government departments will also want to go digital.

“For them, it’s important to have these kinds of technologies on the ground, in the country, so they can serve their customers or citizens best,” he said.

Amazon said months ago that it would be growing to Malaysia, and it looks like the company is still meeting customer needs in countries other than the US. Around the world, AWS does business in places like China, South America, Europe, the Middle East, South Africa, and Asia Pacific. Vogels said that right now this is where they want to put the most money to meet demand and improve protection.

Companies and governments in the area are very interested in being able to keep people safe in our compute regions, he said.
